MARYAM LADY YUNUSA A CANDLE IN THE WIND THAT REFUSED TO BE QUENCHED.
There is a time to be born and a time to die, but in between the two is a time to live. To live to the glory of your creator and for the betterment of humanity.
This statement suits best the tale of life and times of Mariam Lady Yunusa of blessed memory.
MLY was an Urban Planner and an International Development Professional. She retired from the United Nations Habitat, based in Nairobi- Kenya as a Director-in- Charge of Partnerships and Inter- Agency Coordination. The widowed mother of four was resident in Abuja.
MLY's story cannot be said to be one of grass to grace or rags to riches, for even within her community, she was tendered, loved and pampered by her parents who had distinct sense of purpose for her future.
However, coming from the remote hillside village of Gulak in Adamawa State, she was the least likely candidate for the heights she achieved at the United Nations. No wonder a book was written and launched in her honor today at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, titled "The Window Sill", she sees her life as a window through which she hopes the reader can see God at work: His love, His might and enduring faithfulness.
Through her sojourn on earth while rising through different faces in her career as a Principal, Commissioner etc, MLY is said to have left an indelible mark in the sand of time through the lives she has touched and impacted.
" My spiritual, personal and work lives were touched in no small way, by the sum total of who my beautiful, unforgettable friend turned out to be because of the circumstances of her life. Ultimately we all exist to serve God's purpose for mankind".- Mary- Anne U. Aipoh-Ikoku.
"While MLY's obsessive knack and zeal for distinction in all the things she net in her illustrious trajectory are well documented and acknowledged, not too many people know her extreme love for humanity, particularly her silent but gargantuan strides against oppression, hunger, disease and ignorance, to me, this largely unnoticed spirit of MLY is the soft underbelly of her colossal persona, to wit, uplifting the squalid lives of the poor and downtrodden for which she gave her all. She was humanity, humility and empathy personified" - Abubakar Jijiwa.
These and more are some of the testimonies about this amazon that dire to change the narratives.
If life was to be lived as she did, it sure would make sense to so many that tend to believe life is not fare and to the privileged who only live for themselves would surely have a re-think to live to the glory of God and for the betterment of humanity.
May the good soul of MLY RIP.
ReplyDeleteMay the good Lord raise someone to fill in the gap created by her demise of such an icon.
Adieu.
