BIDDINGS FOR CONTRACTS IN PLATEAU GOES ONLINE- DG BUREAU FOR PUBLUC PROCUREMENT

The Plateau State Director General of Public Procurement Bureau, BLDR Peter Y Dogo has aplauded Governor Simon Bako Lalong's efforts in making it a leading agency in Nigeria.

When The Grassroots Watch sort to know how the Governor has fared in the Agency, Dogo stated that "My principal Rt Hon Dr Simon Bako Lalong has actually achieved a lot in the bureau for public procurement, when you look at public procurement in the country its a thing that virtually every state in the country strives to achieve, in Plateau State we are one of the few that are online when it comes to electronic procurement".
The DG reveals that Plateau State government is ahead of many states, and that very soon the agency is going to deploy their e-procurement portal where public procurement, that is procurement of goods, works and services will be done electronically. He adds that they will try by all means to ensure that there is a reduction in person to person when it comes to contracts so that it increases the state governments transparency. 

He further disclosed that "When you carry out things electronically you need to disclose and tell people what you are doing and that is why the Governor has taken this bold step where contracting will be done electronically".

"We have the e- procurement portal, we have the open contracting data system where all contracts that have been awarded are supposed to be disclosed to all the citizens of the state. These are two different electronic portals one is for disclosure of information the other one is for the processes on how to win a contract  from the planning up to the procurement and all these ones are done electronically" Dogo said.

"We are soliciting for the media to help us educate the public because very soon we will engage the media to help us in the awareness so that the small and medium enterprises in the state and the contractors will get the benefit of trying to carry out businesses using the electronics because when we use electronic mediums to carry out public procurement it reduces corruption tendencies, it now opens up the processes and that is the in thing now".

While aporeciating Lalong, the pioneer DG said "The Governor has given us all support that is why he is behind the creation of e- procurement, all we want now is more of the buy in so that the citizens can enjoy the benefits of dividends of using public funds in the acquisition of goods, works and services".

SCHOOL OF NURSING LAFIA INDICTED OF MALPRACTICES AND EXTORTION

The School of Nursing and Midwifery, Lafia is currently battling to safeguard its image over alleged sharp practices ranging from exams malpractices and extortion of money from some gullible students. Information available to us indicates that staff of the  prestigious School of Nursing and Midwifery, Lafia, Nasarawa State are facing one form of allegation or the other.
