PONZHI TAROH RACE: I WANT TO SERVE AND UNITE TAROH NATION TO BE GREAT AGAIN- Garba
Peter Danladi Garba, JP has indicated interest to join the race in the contest for the stool of the Ponzhi Taroh with a dogged determination to unite the Taroh nation under one umbrella for peace and development of the land.
Garba who has been working with the Nigeria Immigration Service for 35 years now and will be retiring in September 2021 made this known to The Grassroots Watch and National Rescue in Jos recently.
"Why I want to contest for the stool of Ponzhi Taroh is to serve my people faithfully as I have served in the Federal Government. I don't see the contest as a do or die affairs but as I seek the face of God on this I always ask that God should pick the right person and guide him to do the right thing by leading the Taroh nation well" Garba said.
Prince Garba further disclosed that "What i want is Taroh unity, for us to be one because the Taroh nation is so scattered. If i am opportuned, if I am oportuned, (because i am not so desperate about becoming the next Ponzhi Taroh) I will work hard to bring the Taroh nation under one umbrella as a united people so that we can speak with one voice. We use to speak with one voice but today we are scattered, and any where there is a division we cannot stand. I want to carry everybody along so that we can be one strong indivisible body".
In his response to a call from some quoters for the race to be opened to everyone willing to contest he said "To be eligible to contest in this race you have to belong to one of five ruling clans
Generalizing the contest for anyone willing to contest won't work and it won't be fair to the Taroh people. Every tribe has a ruling family or clan, even in the Holy Bible, there are ruling families, in Plateau all the tribes have their ruling clans, in England too, so why should our own be different or changed? Taroh people have to come together as one, sort out our differences and give peace a chance, we have to forge ahead and not give in to people who are saying the contest should be open to all, those people don't mean well for Taroh people"
On whether Governor Lalong will dapple into the issue because of rising interest for the stool by so many contenders, Garba said Governor Lalong has always made it clear that he will not interfere in any chieftaincy stool affairs, "he is a good leader who has allowed other tribes to select their rulers, so even in this, he will maintain his integrity and allow the king makers of Taroh land to select their leader by themselves".
The ancestral land of the Taroh nation is Langtang North and Langtang South Local Government Areas.they are equally spread in neighbouring Wase, Kanam, Mikang, Kanke, Pankahin and Shendam Local Government Areas
The Taroh nation was one of the revered tribes on the Plateau with a high number of their sons and daughters in the Nigerian Army and other organisations which earned them the name " Langtang Mafia"
It is believed that the Taroh nation once produced the highest number of Generals in the the Nigerian Army.
